They love to do nice things for others. they look for opportunites to give up something in order to bring another person happiness. selflessness rather than selfishness is their guiding philosophy. Blues seek intimacy. They want to be loved and to love. A true blue will sacrifice a successful career to improve an important relationship. Blues crave being understood. They are gratified when they are listened to, when they feel understood and appreciated. Blues may have thier hearts broken more than most people, but they also spend much more time in love. Blues are directed by a strong moral conscience. They have a moral code that guides them in their decision making, their value judgements, and their leisure time. A blue would rather lose than cheat. Ethically, blues are people who should be in positions of power, but seldom are.

Take The Color Code Test at HelloQuizzy

Midnight Run!

Yay, I ran for the first time in ... what ... 5 years. I can only guess at that time span by the amount of dust and spider webs on my last pair of running shoes. Since I've been playing ninja (taking jiu-jitsu classes) at the beginning of the year, I've been feeling pretty fit...I haven't been getting exhausted during class like I used to. I've also been feeling fidgety between classes with a lot of pent up physical energy. Once in a while, I jump into one of the weekend or morning classes, but I usually get antsy at night. I figured I'd go take a run...and what would running be without the perfect outfit??? :p

So first stop tonight was Wal-Mart to get me a new running kit: shoes, shorts, and a shirt. It took me like 20 minutes, but I finally settled on a lovely blue and gray sleeveless ensemble...pics not forthcoming.

Well, I got home, changed into my new gear and went for a run. Years before when I went running, I would run for about a minute, then walk for about two minutes, and then repeat that cycle over and over till I got back home. I had this theory when I started: since jiu-jitsu/wrestling is way harder than any other physical exercise imaginable, and I can do that for about an hour and a half, a run around the neighborhood (about 3 miles) should be a piece of cake or doable without having to stop. Guess what...I made it all the way around the neighborhood without stopping...yay me! Probably the first time since high-school that I've been able to do that. And I could have kept going, but it was getting late and I didn't want to over-do it. My heart and lungs were kinda cramping up, but they didn't give out.

17 minutes to do 3 miles...and yeah, I spent more time shopping than running :D

Wii is Fit!

Or we will be :D

Picked up a Wii Fit at the GameStop today and it's pretty cool. The balance board is awesome, and I'm doing pretty good on it. According to the thing my Wii Fit age is 29 (-3 years for being in some kind of shape and having good balance). It did say I'm overweight though, and I know that, but it's got a cool management system to monitor and regulate your progress so I set it to make me skinny in two months :D We'll see, if the games are fun and if I don't break it before then, I'm sure that plus the jiu-jitsu class will put me in good shape in no time.

On a side note, I also got a Nintendo DS a few weeks ago and have severe nintendo thumb again (like in high school) and the time I spend sitting playing that will probably be the countermeasure to the Wii Fit. Gotta love Nintendo!!!

Smells like middle-aged spirit!

Mmm...I know that smell...that's the smell of my tribe. Stinky, but familiar, it's a smell that lets me know that everyone around me is looking out for me. I first noticed this kind of tribal smell when I was a kid and my dad would take me to his workplace at the army base. Everyone and everything there smelled like canvas, coffee, and tobacco (pipe tobacco, not those stinky chemical-laced cigarettes). After a while I guess it seeps into your pores and becomes a part of you. Anytime I get near the inside of a military installation, It reminds me of my dad (he's still alive BTW).

I'm starting to pick up a tribal smell of my own. Mine comes from my jiu-jitsu class. It smells metallic, of blood and sweat...and something else. I'm pretty sure that "something else" is a bacteria that we've all communicated to each other. It's on everything, my skin, my training clothes, and it doesn't come out. I can smell it past the lavender dryer-sheet perfume and my deoderant soap. It's a blend of smells from everyone in my class. We sweat and bleed and hurt together and share a bond that doesn't wash away.

Take $200 and call me in the morning

So, I've been self-medicating and treating my mild melancholy with a little bit (okay a lot) of retail therapy. My most recent dosage consisted of a Nintendo DS Lite (black of course to suit my mood) and every Final Fantasy game available. Oh yes...they take me back to the happy part of my childhood...high school. I thought it sucked while I was there, but looking back, they really were some of the best times...sleep overs at friends' houses, endless gaming, movies pretty much every weekend, and no real responsibility...I think that was the big winner. Anyway back to the DS...I finished (almost) one game: FF:Ring of Fates and started onto FFIII. I've logged about 30 hours on the little guy...soo much fun. One thing I've noticed is that after playing for any prolonged period of time, I will turn it off, and everything in the real world looks so much frakin' bigger. My cereal, my computer monitor, everything. The effect wears off after a few minutes, but it is very dramatic. So, that's the side effect of my latest medication...the world looks a lot bigger...

I am a man today!

Today, I became a man. I changed my own spare tire for the first time :D I drove through Halawa and I noticed a ticking noise...which I guessed was a piece of metal stuck in my tire. It didn't go flat, so I ran an errand, got some food at the drive through and went home. I looked at my tires and noticed a metal plate stuck on the tire, no hissing, so I thought it was just stuck in the grooves. I got a pair of pliers and yanked it out...but to my dismay, the metal plate (about one inch square) was attached to my tire by a two inch nail...sunk straight into the tire. As soon as I pulled it out...the hissing started. *sigh* I should have left it in there and gone straight to the tire shop, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Anyway...after I got over my short-lived depression, I went back out to the car to attempt to put the spare tire on. Now, I must admit, this is probably the first time I've ever touched the spare tire in my car. It's a 1998 car, and it's 2008, so I'm thinking it's been in there for about 10 years. In the past, I've driven on my rim to make it to the tire shop after I got a flat. But seeing as I was at home, and had the time, I thought I'd do it right and actually put the spare on. You know, they actually put a lot of tools in there with the spare...even a jack!

So I got it on, and noticed that one of my other tires looks like it's about to blow out it's sidewalls. I could tell by the occasional one inch bump on the side. To wrap up this already too long story quickly, I made it to the tire store, handed over $200 and got me some new tires. Now I can drive with the confidence that the next time I get a flat, I won't leave a trail of sparks to the tire store :D

The Lament of Gary Gygax

Gary Gygax. my childhood (and adulthood) hero is dead today. A man who made his living creating games that geeks around the world have enjoyed with nothing more than pencil, paper, and some dice; oh, if only we could be so altruistic. His is the generation of bearded hippies like Steve Wozniak who managed to make a living by making the world a better place. I would loved to have been one of them...but I can't grow a beard :D

He is missed.

....oh wait, I can grow a beard :D

sick of it...

uugh...so I've been sick for almost two weeks now...

I know when it started, in jiu-jitsu class two Wednesdays ago a couple of the guys had just come back from being out with the flu...HAH! Liars! They still had it. There is no surer way to transfer a virus than to roll around on the floor getting sweaty with the infected. I think I need to start taking Airborne before training.

I missed one workout session so far and I'll probably miss this week too. This is not mixing well with my home-remedy of sleeping, soda, salty potato chips, ramen, and television. I'm living like I'm in college again and I'm looking at putting on another freshman 40 (*o*)

So in my sick state I managed to make it to games day last Saturday. I dragged my brother along with me and he just happened to have what looked like the same sick. I only went because I had committed to play in a tournament and give my brother a ride. Otherwise I would have stayed home in my nice warm bed and slept off the morning. But no, I had to go play games. When I play in tourneys, I tend to concentrate on the game...not worrying about eating or drinking anything, and that didn't mix well with being sick. I got a bit dehydrated, luckily my brother was looking out for me and fetched drinks and food for me between his games. I don't appreciate him as much as I should...probably because he doesn't drive and I have to transport him everywhere :p

And the hats...I've found and worn every hat I own over the last two weeks. When I get sick, I like to keep warm...specifically, I like to keep my head warm. So I've been wearing all my hats, out, to bed, and sometimes two at once...just to see if it was any warmer...and it is. Some hats cut a little into my ears so they only work for daytime because otherwise I wake up with sore ears...if I'm awake, I can adjust every-so-often. Some hats are really not suitable for going outside because they're just too goofy, and I only own one of those...more precisely, I only made one of those...and I have worn it out in semi-public. One hat...my fleece bunny hat is great...it's the best hat I own, but I try not to wear it too often because it's kinda hard to wash. At the moment, I have my knit rasta hat on, I didn't get it so much because I like rasta hats, but I needed a hat one day (because it got cold) and well...it was the only one at hand.

And so I'm up at this ridiculous hour typing away because I just took a dose of NyQuil and I'm waiting for it to kick in...and here it goes...

At Solomon's house this weekend I mentioned to Pat and Sol that I had started to play cello, and played some Rasputina on YouTube for them. Pat told me about this awesome cello quartet called Apocalyptica that does Metallica covers (and some other stuff). Oh, they're so awesome.

<lj-embed id="11" />
Gunsmith

A couple of steam-punk-styled toy gun repaints for your consideration.

Hua-Hai Model No. 922 Raygun

This is a cheap $2 water pistol from Price Busters. This is the second gun I painted, and I learned that gold spray-paint is a lot easier to apply than brushed-on gold acrylic paint, so the whole thing was primed gold and painted with acrylics. The little knob under the barrel is actually a second barrel that you can turn to shoot sideways, (or point backwards and shoot yourself).

I gave this to a friend as an early x-mas present (and to lure her into going steampunk) :D

N-Strike Maverick Rev-6 Pistol

This is an $8 Nerf N-Strike Maverick Rev-6 pistol repainted with simulated wood grain, gunmetal and brass accents. I got the "sonic dart" refills, and those things are great! They whistle/sound like little bottle rockets. The "scarring" on the silver paint is from rugged use by about a dozen people shooting the gun repeatedly in a local comic/game shop :D

I did two of these so I have a brace of pistols for my steampunk get-up (that's American for "outfit"...kinda like "kit" to you Brits).

I have a whole bunch of other cheap water guns I want to repaint, will post as they get done. If I can paint them efficiently/fast enough, I want to sell them for around $50-60 each depending on complexity.

Jujitsu = Ow!

So this little ninja bunny went to his first jujitsu class last night and ... OW! My entire body *(except the bottom of my feet) hurt. I got fatigued and felt faint/dizzy after 15 minutes of stretching and running and sit-ups and such....so out of shape. All in all the class was much fun...

I got to see my friend Russ "accidentally" grab the male teacher's ass in a demonstration of a grappling escape. His excuse was that when the teacher said "now grab my leg" that he used the wrong hand...I still don't know how he mistook a buttock for a leg. It was a solid grab too XD

Then in sparring at the end of class...I got my ass handed to me by a little kid...maybe 14 years old, 112 Lbs (I asked him). He got me in submissions about 3 times even though I have about 90 Lbs on him, but in my defense...I don't know Jujitsu and he's like a jusitsu champion. He beat me squarely and I had a blast.

Then Russ got to spar with me (after I was already toasted by the little kid) and he choked me out twice, then I had to take a breather because I was getting that pre-faint dizzy/numb/cold sensation (yes, I'm a frequent fainter). And class ended...

...but the fun didn't stop. Russ walked out the door and started dry heaving into the bushes...I guess he probably felt the same way I did, but he didn't stop. Kudos for persistence, but know you limits.

I went home, took a lovely hot shower, and went to sleep and woke up in pain this morning...but it was well worth it.

My Personal Daemon

A little return to the virtual world...to ask for help from my friends. I've been having way too much fun with my current steampunk fascination and I'm eagerly awaiting the theatrical release of the Golden Compass. I'm reading the book now because I can't read the book after I see it as a movie...just a personal quirk. Anyway, they had this quiz on the website and it not only takes my input, but the input of my friends. So if you have the time, please transform my daemon.

<lj-embed id="3" />

I must admit I don't know where the initial quiz got "humble" or "solitary" from :p

FanArt100: Iron Kingdoms

So I've added yet another project to the list...this one's a list unto itself. I'm taking up the FanArt100 challenge (officially or otherwise) to illustrate two of my favorite characters from the Iron Kingdoms setting: Exemplar Mikael Kreoss and The Harbinger of Menoth. I'll be updating the grid below with my responses to each prompt. Wish me luck! (or at least some self-discipline...or just some discipline ;p )
